Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains," Bill Gates said and I agree. Coding is very important and our students need to learn these skills to be able to apply them in the future.

I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners.

I work with students with autism, students with specific learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, and students who may benefit from small group interventions. Close to 90% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, and about 60% of our students are English language learners.

My Project

The Lego Mindstorms is a starter set that will help my students create and command robots that walk, talk, think and do anything one can imagine. They will be able to bring them to life with an easy, intuitive and icon based programming interface. These resources will help my students develop coding and computer programming skills so that small robots move and follow commands that are generated by each student's team. This program promotes team building opportunities and allows students to explore various scenarios and identify different solutions to technological advances in the world. I am also requesting three sets of Magformers Magnetic because it engages mathematical and scientific thought, deductive reasoning, and requires use of spatial awareness. The instant connect pieces will make building easy for my students. They will be able to build geometric shapes, a giraffe, a crab, a helicopter, or a tower. The possibilities will be endless!

Please help my students by contributing to three Magformers sets and a Lego Mindstorm EV3 kit for computer programming and to develop critical thinking skills.

These resources will help my students have a better understanding of coding. These resources will help support my students by giving them access to computer science education, empower them to make things, enhance their curiosity, and gain the creative confidence to bring their ideas to life.
