This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education English teacher in a Chicago Public High School. I teach 9th-12th grade. This proposal is for my self-contained British Literature class. These students are in 11th grade.
In my class we learn about British literature. We go over the history, styles of writing, and various authors. There are a lot of new vocabulary words that go along with these novels, poems, and plays. Right now we have 1 dictionary for 10 students in my classroom. It is hard to design vocabulary lessons where students can use this dictionary because there aren't enough for everyone.
Dictionaries are a great resource and a wonderful tool for all lessons. Students need to get in the habit of looking up words that are unfamiliar to them so they can better understand the material in front of them. By having dictionaries accessible to all my students, I can provide a better learning experience. My students will succeed and improve their vocabulary skills for the ACTS and for life.
With your help you will make it possible for my students to get a better understanding of the material we are learning in class. They will be able to look up unfamiliar words and get a better understanding of the material. Your help is very important to them. Thank you in advance and we really appreciate it!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
