This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English language learners who are interested in reading and writing in English. Their biggest challenge is developing vocabulary. They need a thesaurus to begin to use fancy words and a dictionary to help define new terminology.
My students are fifth graders.
Our school is located in a poverty-stricken section of the city. My students are special learners with various learning disabilities. They are a cheerful bunch ready and willing to learn new things. Our school is a K-5th grade school.
My Project
Our students are English language learners. They are eager to learn new vocabulary and use "big" words. Instead of writing the word sad, they like using the words "grief stricken". Our kids are learning to write narrative, informational, and opinion essays. They need these dictionaries and thesauruses to increase the level of vocabulary they use in their writing.
Donations to this project will improve our classroom in many ways.
For instance, the use of the thesaurus will elevate the standards of writing for our 5th graders. It will change the lives of our students by opening up a world of new, fancy words they can add to their repertoire.
