Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my classroom, I have twenty-seven enthusiastic learners. We are a Title I school in a low socioeconomic neighborhood with limited resources. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners with a lot of curiosity and great ideas.
They come from hard-working families that have at least two jobs. My students need the right resources and tools to help them master the academic standards in all areas. Help us move towards success!
My Project
I am requesting a class set of pocket dictionaries to use for our small group center. In reading class our scholars read different types of text and genres, and most of the time the comprehension of what they read is blocked because they don't understand the meaning of unfamiliar words.
It is extremely important for our students to develop and expand their vocabulary every day.
Dictionaries are an essential tool and they provide a necessary skill for scholars to excel in other subjects. I have a strong belief that having good reading and comprehension skills transfers into the other subjects and helps students in all areas. Even in Math, it helps them with comprehending word problems.
A big part of our population are English language learners and dictionaries provide one of the biggest support for those students to learn how to spell words correctly and to expand their vocabulary every time they see a new word as they read. I want to be able to provide all the support needed for my students to succeed and I know that dictionaries is a great tool to accomplish that.
