My Project
Students in 10th grade Biology need to learn how dichotomous keys work in the world of classification. Through this lesson, students are taught how to read a dichotomous key and then they carry their knowledge to a higher level and create their own key, using "hygiene items". After classifying the items (simulating fake organisms), they will put them together in a cloth/reusable bag. These bags will then be distributed (during the holidays) to individuals in the following areas: nursing homes, homeless shelters and veterans homes.
Biology, combined with the art of giving and educating others will be the ultimate goal of this project.
After the bags have been put together, students will choose one of the items in the bag and research the science behind creating that product, they will then make a little note card with that information (and a personal note) for the receiver to read.
