Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of amazing fourth graders full of life, energy, and curiosity! They love digging into learning with their minds, hearts, and hands. They come from a variety of backgrounds and face many challenges, including poverty, abuse, mental and emotional health issues, and family discord.
Many of them thrive off the stability and structure that the classroom provides.
It is in the classroom that they learn about themselves and the world. They learn how to face challenges, fail without giving up, interact with others, build relationships, and impact their world. Students feel most comfortable and learn better in a clean and safe environment.
My Project
In non-pandemic years, we are in need of soap, paper towels, Kleenex and other basics. How much more so now! The Dial soap will streamline our bathroom and hand washing trips because we’ll be well stock, never waiting for someone to refill the restroom receptacles. Have you ever had to wait in a hallway with 20 plus children, who need to use the bathroom, for soap? It’s not ideal.
More time and energy can be devoted to our reason for coming together- LEARNING!
Much instruction time can be wasted when students’ basic physical and emotional needs are not properly cared for. My students would benefit tremendously from the journals. Many are struggling with anxiety due to various reasons. They love to journal and often ask to have a notebook where they can, “Just write.”
The STEM kits are a no brainer. In small groups, the students can put their nonfiction reading, math, science and engineering skills to good use and never once get bored. Is that not a win-win for everyone?
