Dia De Los Muertos Celebrated With Ms. Dobay

Help me give my students the opportunity to extend their learning about the three day Day Of The Dead holiday by helping supply them with literature and festive regalia to create a multi sensory experience in the classroom.

My Students

I am a teacher for the San Francisco Unified School District where I have taught third grade for the past twenty-two years. I work at an urban school with a varied population, both racially as well as socioeconomically. Our school population represents students of global cultures and backgrounds. Additionally, our school follows an inclusion model. This means a handful of students in class are not performing at grade level and therefore, need supplementary materials. On the average, one half to one third of my class qualifies for free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

Students senses are engaged by visual stimuli. Each year we learn about, create around and celebrate the Day Of The Dead in our third grade classroom. Our new Day Of The Dead materials will take this sensory unit to the next level.

Students will immerse themselves in the festive, visual and kinesthetic experience with the aid of literature, activities and regalia this project supplies them with.

Covid has prevented us from taking our field trip to the San Francisco Mission to make Pan De Muertos or Bread Of The Dead. Our requested materials will ensure that our academic focus on The Day Of The Dead continues to be a multi cultural and sensory learning opportunity.
