My students need books and tri-fold displays to create their Literacy Fair that the lower grades visit.

My Students
Has a book jacket ever caught your eye as you were perusing shelves at a bookstore? Imagine a book jacket larger than life AND interactive! This is a chance to grab the imagination of a young reader.
I have a classroom full of dynamic 5th grade personalities.
We have worked on the sense of family and giving back to our community throughout our year. This can be a daunting task since we are a Title 1 school and many of our students come from broken homes. Many families are struggling to make ends meet. The love of books have allowed my students to escape into another world if only for a bit of time. They devour all kinds of books and now want to share their love of reading with the younger students. I am proud of their wish to 'give back' to our school community.
My Project
Our classroom will be creating a literacy fair. With tri-fold displays, they will design an interactive book jacket showcasing their favorite books. Imagine actually tasting "Chocolate Fever!" The lower grades (1st - 3rd) will visit the Literacy Fair in hopes to spark their interest in a certain book. Our 5th graders will be inspiring young readers to try something new.
We love building a school community within our four walls.
We already have Reading buddies, in which we are teamed with another classroom. My students have asked to find a way to reach more of the younger students in our school. After some research it was decided that a Literacy Fair was the way to go!
