I have an amazing group of students I work with to improve their reading skills. The students I work on reading with range from kindergarten to fifth grade. I teach at an inner-city public school.
I teach at a public Montessori school.
It is a unique learning opportunity for all of our students. All of the classes at our school are multi-age. The students really enjoy working with students of all ages.
My Project
Wouldn't you love to have someone who always listened to you, always loved you, and never had an unpleasant thing to say? I think everyone could use someone like that in their lives including my students. All three of those qualities describe a facility dog. A facility dog will help all the children in the school.
This is a very unique opportunity for our students.
A facility dog can be used for many different tasks in a school. Statistics have shown that a child's fluency rate can improve by reading to a dog. The dog will never stop and correct you, they are excellent listeners, and they love to listen to students reading. This helps give a child self-confidence when reading. Emotionally, this dog can help everyone. The dog could help a child who is scared of school. The dog could help the child feel more comfortable and the child could have an instant friend. Sometimes children need a way to calm down: what could be a better way than to pet a dog. The dog can just sit and listen to a child's problem. Dogs have a calming effect on children and adults. Our students can also learn responsibility from the dog. They will help take care of the dog. The students will learn how to brush, bathe, brush the dog's teeth, feed, walk, and provide the basic needs for the dog. I know this dog will touch so many lives.
Please help the children at my school get a new friend. You will make it possible for my students to have a friend and companion who gives unconditional love no matter what.
