Help me give my students hands-on manipulatives, activities, and games to build fine and large gross motor skills and develop peer relationships through play based problem solving!
I teach kindergarten at a K - 8 school in Arizona. Our population is a high concentration of middle-class, hard-working families, students with special needs, and second language learners. Our student population has a diverse community of cultures, academic needs, and special education students. We have a proactive staff and community that work collaboratively to meet the needs of all of our students.
This year's students have been affected by Covid-19 restrictions, limiting preschool and peer engagement experiences prior to kindergarten.
They are a young, curious group of learners, with significant gaps in social/peer engagement and fine and large gross motor skills. I have identified a need to build fine and large gross motor skills while incorporating problem-solving and peer engagement through hands-on interactive learning activities.
My Project
Materials from this project will be used in the classroom to support students development of fine motor skills through engagement in sensory tubs, learning stations, and partner activities with tinker toys, snap sets, playdough, and LEGO. Additional project materials such as the "wooden boat rocker" and "giant stepping stones" will be utilized on the playground to reinforce cooperative play based learning and develop large gross motor skills, problem-solving, and peer interactions on the playground.

When incorporating fine and gross motor skills with content and problem solving, students engage multiple senses deepening their level of understanding and achievement! I am excited to receive materials from this project and witness the learning inspired.
