Help me give my students foam sensory paints, weighted items, snacks and flexible seating in order to provide ways to address needs and provide positive reinforcement.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These items will assist our students in regulation and provide sensory stimulation needed to help them remain on task. The sensory paints, sensory beads, and flexible seating will help to provide an environment where students can feel safe and comfortable. Our students seek out ways to meet their sensory needs, and would benefit from the weighted lap pad and neck pad to assist with this. Our students are special as they have faced several barriers and still continue to put in the efforts to make improvements and work towards their goals.
My students are more engaged when they have the opportunity to take sensory breaks.
By assisting with these items, my students will be able to work towards more time in their designated classroom and have the outlet they need to focus. They will be able to choose which items meet their specific need, and can be used in both individual and group settings to work on their social and emotional growth.
COVID-19 has created difficulties for our students as they lost the ability to interact with others and has impacted their ability to manage social interactions. Having the opportunity to have sensory items that can be utilized in group settings can help to build social emotional learning by providing fun and interactive ways to engage with their peers. The more positive interactions socially my students have, the sooner we will be able to re-integrate them into mainstream classes and know that they will be successful.
