Developing Readers and Supporting Learners in High School

Help me give my students resources to develop their reading skills and to build their note taking and study skills.

My Project

All of my students will benefit from increasing their reading, so developing students reading routines and reading habits will help do this. I have worked extensively with students on building their reading skills. Now, I want to expand what I do by focusing on students' listening comprehension, since students will become better readers, writers, speakers, and listeners simply by listening to more books. This will develop their background knowledge, vocabulary, reading comprehension and listening skills. Audiobooks are invaluable tools for this. Using these tablets will allow me to build an audio library with a variety of books for the diverse learners at my school. I will use the requested resources to establish and develop the practice of wide reading in all of my classes. This will develop students' interest, confidence, and skill. Just as importantly, it will build their identity as readers. It will give students the ability to choose what they read. My education as a reading specialist taught me that all of these components are essential to supporting reading development. Building background knowledge is critical to developing good readers and writers. Audiobooks support students reading development which will support their social and academic growth.

Additionally, my students will benefit from seeing how technology can optimize learning, so I will also use the reMarkable to build students' note taking skills.

Students who take notes daily improve their listening and academic skills the most. This is why I want to provide students with another tool to support and enhance the habits that are critical for learning.
