We are excited to have access to high-quality materials that will help us to build oral language with all students in our building, with particular emphasis on our students who are English Language Learners. Learning a new language holds its challenges and we are excited to focus on this piece that is foundational for all future reading development in children. The variety of materials in this request will support our staff when they meet with our students both in one-on-one and in small group settings, connecting language with images and practicing what they learn in conversations in multiple ways. The Lakeshore Vocabulary Development Photo Card set and the Nouns Photo Flash Cards can be used to develop oral language through conversation by first focusing on connecting images to their common names and then implementing those common names within the structure of sentences in conversations. The Bilingual Book Collection from Lakeshore makes the connections between English and Spanish for our ELL learners and all students. The Lakeshore Mystery Box along with the Touch and Match Game are both fun ways to work with learners to name objects and practice using those names in the context of conversations. Lakeshore sequencing rods will begin to develop sequencing skills that can be transferred to reading to work on comprehension and retell.
