Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In working with students with differing sensory and language needs we require a lot of tactile and sensory experiences in order to fully grasp topics and ideas. The tactile books will help to engage my students in literacy lessons better and help to make abstract ideas more concrete. Many students are learning English for the first time and require vocabulary support. In this way, the Touch Learn vocabulary cards help to provide visual support to my English Language Learners and students that are on the autism spectrum. In addition, many of my students need support in the areas of fine motor skills. The scented playground serves 2 purposes: it will help to build fine motor skills that are needed for writing and functional skills (such as dressing oneself), and it helps fulfill sensory needs for my students that are on the autism spectrum (both through textures and screens). Because I’m starting a new class, I will be starting from scratch and will need all of the materials that a regular school budget does not account for. My students will be able to focus and concentrate better when their sensory and language needs are met, and they are able to develop cognitively and increase literacy skills through exploratory experiences. Thank you for blessing our classroom!
