Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach third grade at a school with primarily English Language Development students. In my class, I have ELD students, gifted students, and students working at grade level. Unfortunately, state test scores in math at my school have been dropping. In order to change this pattern, I am trying to make math more hands-on and comprehensible for students. This includes direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice. Since I have student at various levels, some days are run with math stations in which students rotate through math stations practicing different skills while I meet with different groups to help meet their needs. Students are especially lacking in word problem skills. I would like to provide students with daily practice in solving word problems so they can be better prepared to approach these types of questions. I therefore want to use daily problem solving kits and different math center games to provide my students with rich math experiences. Through this approach, I want to strengthen students' academic abilities as well as interest in mathematics. The resources you may provide can help students achieve this.
