Fifty percent of the children in my classroom are children who are identified with special needs.
Disabilities include: speech and language delays, autism, developmental delays, and physical disabilities. Our program includes English Language Learners as well as low income families. The Early Childhood Program is located in an Elementary School Building in a separate wing that is comprised of four classes. Students attend classes for a half day either in the morning or the afternoon.
My Project
In our preschool program, motor development is a critical part of the day. We support student growth by promoting self direction within structured and unstructured activities while building motor skills. Every year our curriculum includes units of study that engage children in learning actively and include gross motor components. I am requesting multiple items to be used by our quickly growing center both during indoor gross motor time and outdoor gross motor time.
The soccer balls, timers, basketballs, stepping stones, scooters, hoop racks, fleece bands, Balanco sets, tubs, sand tools, water sets, activity mats, beanbags center, pipes, and other materials requested will be used to help develop coordination, cooperation, balance and hand eye coordination. Students will be gaining sports balls that match their use and have activities to use them with. Children will be able to enjoy our sand area with stronger toys and materials that help them think and work together. The stepping stones, activities mats, balance boards and stretchy bands will be used indoors to create rotations for students.
The requested donation will support the identified learning goals of our young preschool students.
Our students will develop safety awareness, self-management, balance, coordination and physical stamina.
