Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a large, urban school district. The students in my school range from preschool to 4th grade. They include children with special needs, hearing impairments, and English language learners. A majority of the children who attend my school come from low-income families. My class for many of my students their first school experience and even though it may be remote I want it to be an exciting experience for my students. Through their experiences in my class, I lay the groundwork for a love of learning and education.
My Project
Some of my students are returning to school from remote learning. They may have not had the opportunities to participate in outside play and develop their gross motor skills.
At school we have the opportunity to take our student outside.
We need hands-on materials to help them develop coordination and gross motor skills. With the balls they work on throwing and catching skills along with kicking. They also work on social skills by throwing and catching ball with classmates.
The hula hoops can be used in a variety of ways. We can set up an obstacle course with them, thrown a ball or beanbag in the hula hoop and the children can work on coordination through practicing spinning the hula hoop with their waist.
The children can use the soft frisbee throwing them back and forth with classmates. We can incorporate using the soft frisbees into an obstacle course.
The alphabet bowling set can be used for not only developing gross motor skills but learning to identify letters of the alphabet.
The materials will be a great addition to my classroom and incorporate into my curriculum!
