This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 9th-12th graders in a resource classroom. Many are working on building the necessary skills to successfully manage high school in general education settings. In addition to the students I serve, I also provide additional math support to students who are taking higher level math classes (geometry and up) and they are also in need of these supplies.

Overall, the students are excited to learn and have grown as learners.

They have grown to enjoy technology via Google Classroom, tablets, laptops, etc. Because the class supports all subjects (English, social studies, math, and science), my class is limited in the resources compared to general education classes.

My Project

This class serves as a bridge for students who need extra support and are working on developing the skills to be successful in general education classes. Many of my students have received a lapse in math instruction due to circumstanses out of their control and the classroom team is working hard to get them back on track.

Many of the students are intimidated by higher level math and have felt that they can't succeed at the next level.

The class has two levels: pre-algebra and algebra 1. In efforts to expose students to more complex math concepts and graphing, these calculators will help them visualize their work. Although Desmos is a useful tool, not all students have smart phones and I want to grant access to all students.
