Our reading Intervention groups are ready to transition to chapter books during our small group sessions. Struggling readers can become discouraged when reading thin little books that look similar to the ones provided in lower grade levels. This project would provide accessible, high-interest science and mystery books for our reading groups. Our students are developing their critical thinking skills, and the science topics really grab their attention!
When integrating science-themed chapter books into our small groups, the primary goal will be student engagement, the application of scientific thinking, and the integration of literacy.
Mystery stories strengthen their problem-solving skills by posing questions and possible solutions to unfamiliar situations. By offering appropriately leveled chapter books to our students, they can confidently practice reading appropriately leveled texts. Then we can work on developing the reading comprehension component of masterful readers.
Our school has been fortunate to have had multiple DonorsChoose projects funded and the materials have made a tremendous difference in the quality of the education they receive. Our school puts students first and supplies everything we need to be highly successful. But sometimes teachers individually identify things that would improve the delivery of their instruction and the student's educational experience. We greatly appreciate every single dollar that has been contributed to making our projects come to life!
