Next year, I will be teaching in Wichita, KS.. There are approximately 920 students and it is the largest K-8 school in the Wichita district. I will be teaching K-5 general music as well as exploratory classes for 7th and 8th grade students. I am starting two new exploratory classes: music technology that will allow students to create music with technology and a music passion project that will allow students to study an area of music that they want to explore while using project-based learning. This is the first time I will have middle school students in a classroom setting.
I am so excited to work with the students, parents, and staff to bring them the love and joy of music.
The school is in the top 1% of the most diverse schools in the state. Our school has 62% minority enrollment with 28% Asian, 12% Hispanic, and 11% Black. Our students are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch is at 40%. I want to give my new students the best opportunities to learn.
My Project
I have never taught a music technology course and I need help! This project will give me access to an annual membership in the Midnight Music Community that will include over 220 hours of Online Music Tech Courses specifically geared to music teachers like me, ready-to-use lesson plans, as well as a member-only forum. In the forum, I can connect with other music teachers, ask questions, share ideas, and collaborate.
Some of the interesting music lessons include video clips for film scoring, notation images for worksheets, guitar and ukulele chord images, audio samples, remix stems, worksheets, listening response sheets, handouts, guides, and more.
I have viewed several articles on this website as well as previewed some lesson plans and I am so excited to start planning my middle school exploratory classes.
