My Students

I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.

As the 2016 and 2019 Teacher of the Year as well as an alumni of Metro Atlanta Teach for America, I choose to continue to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in our region’s high-need communities.

My Project

My school believes in differentiating all instruction to best meet the needs of all the learners in our classrooms. Reading mini-lessons and guided reading are a huge part of how I help children learn to read. I have some texts that are very helpful in supporting me as I become a better reading teacher. The Fountas and Pinnell Reading Minilessons book will support me as I teach on the cutting edge of children's learning! There is literally no better way to engage students and support them on their journey to becoming lifelong learners.

Help me become stronger and more knowledgeable in the theory and practice of guided reading so that my children can become lifelong learners and readers.

This book will have a direct and immediate impact on the instruction that I deliver and in turn the teaching that students receive. Not only will this book allow me to hone my teaching skills, but I will also learn how to provide students with responsive teaching. Enhancing teaching skills will have a hugely positive impact on my students. Please help me better my teaching practices so that I can provide students with the top-notch education they deserve.
