Teacher Professional Development: I need a laptop, portable projector, speaker system, and colored copy paper to help me as a facilitator of PD. <profdevpilot>
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my room is LOUD. It's a good loud. Student love science, they gravitate to it. Students love to be in centers manipulating ramps to learn forces and motion, reading high interest science books and magazines, and working together on groups projects that integrate all subjects.
Along with teaching my third, fourth and fifth graders, I help facilitate professional development for my district.
Once a month for the last two years, I meet with teachers one Saturday a month to provide teachers with activities and content knowledge. I present to my school staff on how to make science meaningful for our bilingual students using SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Operation Protocol). For the last three years I have presented my work with students at our state place based education conference. I facilitate PD for our hub within the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative Along with teaching students and facilitating PD for peers. I am constantly looking for ways to hone my craft. I've spent a week at Thunder Bay Sanctuary learning about invasive species and service learning projects and then implementing those projects in my school. I also attend local, state and national conferences like MSTA and ASCD to help keep me informed of best practices.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will help me continue to improve and provide a high quality experience as a PD provider and teacher. I use high quality websites with students and teachers to help facilitate learning. I use PowerPoint presentations with my students to help my students understand key concepts. I share these presentations with my peers during professional development. When I go to a site to present, rooms are always different. I don't always have access to a computer or projector on site. Teachers like to have hard copies of the activities we make. These supplies will ensure that I would be able to provide a high quality product to teachers and students. When I attend conferences such as MSTA (Michigan Science Teachers Association) and ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), these supplies will enable me to be a more active participant; I will be able to type notes, access and navigate websites as needed during conference sessions.
I service over 100 students a day.
I have provided support to over 100 teachers just this year alone. These supplies will help me to use technology to improve myself when I'm engaging students and teachers alike. I have a love and passion for science. I want to share that passion with as many students and teachers as possible, and your donation will help make that happen.
