This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Getting through the day with the least amount of distractions is challenging enough with a phone ringing, intercom announcements, a pencil sharpener that grinds through your last pencil, and then there is the long wait to use a computer to research or finish a multimedia project. Technology needed!
My fifth grade students are highly enthusiastic about challenges and have made goals of scoring a perfect 600 on the CA State Exams.
They are high achievers in need of challenging technology experiences. They are a fun-loving, creative, and dedicated group of learners coming from primarily Latino families in a mid to lower socioeconomic community located in suburban California. Their lives and families are impacted during these budget cutting times. In spite of these challenges, my students are dedicated to learning and their parents are very supportive in assisting them to be critical thinkers and striving to go beyond their comfort zone. Our school has about 1000 students in a PreK-5 environment where free lunch is a standard. With a larger class size (32) this year we have learned to work/share together as a family.
My Project
My students are in desperate need of an efficient, durable pencil sharpener because they do a lot of writing. I am requesting a Galaxy tablet and accessories because currently there are 'ZERO' computers in my classroom, except when I let my students use my personal ones. My students are interested in doing science/math research and multimedia projects, such as clayanimation, PowerPoint presentations, and making a digital portfolio of their work. I have located many math, science, and language arts websites that allow my students to practice their grade level standards and take exams online. As their teacher, I can then obtain instant results and provide them remediation on an individual basis, as needed. I am the facilitator of my students learning and will guide them with challenging activities. My students will learn how to take the initiative for their own online learning and organize projects to completion.
My students are living in the age of electronics and eagerly want to increase their knowledge of the endless uses technology can provide.
Having current technology gives them the opportunity to take hold of their own learning and develop the critical thinking skills needed to be leaders. Your donations will let my students know that they are valuable members of society and will be held accountable for their learning. Please consider a donation to our request.
