This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach exceptional students in the inner city. Our students receive both free breakfast and lunch. Our district has no funds to support our classroom, which significantly impacts our classroom and our children. My children have wonderful families, but given their situation, they cannot help the classroom by supporting us with supplies.
We need chairs for our guided reading table.
This table is where I pull small groups to work with students on reading and math. We also need book bins with storage to keep the boxes in. Each child must have their own book bin that they can call their own, where they can store books they are reading and other items that no one else can touch.
At the guided reading or small group table, I pull together groups of children who share the same weaknesses and areas that they need to work on. I pull each group every day in our center rotation. Here we work on reading, strategies, sight words, and more.
