This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are at a disadvantage. Not only do they not have access to computers in their homes, but access in school is very limited.
My students are dedicated, hard-working children who are eager to learn and constantly express excitement for school.
They love projects, especially when they involves their parents. Although difficult at times, due to language barriers and money, parents try to provide as much support as they can.
My students are English Language Learners who receive free lunch and are attending a low performing school. Our school district is undergoing many budget cuts, including reducing teacher salaries, and teachers are having a difficult time purchasing items and making ends meet. My students, unfortunately, do not have the means to be exposed to outside of school enrichment. I have students whose parents have more than one job; purchasing a computer for their children isn't a priority when basic needs are difficult to meet.
My Project
A computer will support my curriculum in every facet! We have software that enhances our core curriculum, but technology is either outdated or nonexistent. A computer will open my students' minds and give them exposure to new information, technology, resources, research, word processing and and endless gold mine of learning that will be otherwise unattainable.
To be a successful student these days, you must be acquainted with technology, especially computers.
My students are not! It saddens me to share that some of my students can't turn on a computer and are very much intimidated by them.
