Newberg Robotics is a group of high school students from Newberg, Oregon who compete in ORTOP's FIRST Tech Challenge by connecting the community with STEM, building objective-oriented robots, and building positive character through Gracious Professionalism. Using skills they learn from engineering, computer science, and robotics classes, students design, build, and operate competition robots from May through April. Over the past two years, our robotics program has sent (3) teams to the Oregon State Championship and brought home a total of 12 awards.
We are getting ready for our 2018-2019 robotics season and need better desktop computers for Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, Cura, and Microsoft Office. These new computers have the necessary RAM and processing power to support these extremely useful programs. They will allow us to produce advanced-level robot models with tolerances and specs.
In Their Own Words
Drawing robot parts in CADD is an essential part of the FTC Engineering Notebook, which details all the design aspects of our competition robot. These CADD files are difficult to create due to the pure size and complicity of their structure. We need an upgrade from our Intel Duo processors so we can compete with other teams.
Our team's coders, computer engineers, and builders will use these new computers to shorten the time needed to go from robot design to build competition. The desktop computers will help better our teamwork and communication skills to produce more amazing robots for the FIRST Tech Challenge. They will also allow us to complete other online tasks associated with our robot.
Newberg is home to the largest machine shop and robotics lab in the State of Oregon, but it is becoming outdated due to continually advancing technology. To accommodate for this change and increase our chances succeeding, we need these new computers to improve our engineering notebooks, CADD-ing skills, and 3D printing abilities.
