My Students
I currently teach 5th grade social studies and science. I teach at an elementary school that is 100% free lunch and in a very high poverty area. I teach between 50-60 students each year.
My students amaze me every day.
These students come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of them face situations every day that most of us cannot imagine. Many go without basic necessities, so I have made it my mission to see that they have everything they need to be a success in my classroom.
Our teachers are many times the only constant and stable adult presence they have. Each student is loved and cared for while at school. I strive to make my classroom a safe haven for them.
My Project
My students are in need of new desks. Our current desks are large and take up a lot of space. The tops have started coming loose and have been reattached so much that the screws are starting to poke through the top.
Smaller desks will open up much needed classroom space for collaboration and group work.
I am requesting 24 adjustable student desks that will be used daily. These desks will give my students a safe and sturdy work space for years to come.
