Desk Pets

My Students

My students are an amazing group of kids. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural California. It serves 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.

Our school has a strong academic and athletic culture.

I want to maintain our strength in these areas by continuing to provide materials to enrich my students' experiences.

My Project

I am requesting erasers, storage containers, and decorations to create desk pets and habitats.

I have always used a reward system for my classroom.

Students earn tickets for exhibiting positive behavior. This year I would like to give my students desk pets as a reward. Students would earn classroom money for being good citizens, completing work on time and for producing quality work. When students earn enough money, they can purchase desk pets and materials to decorate their habitats. Students will learn to budget, will behave better and will produce better work.

With their adopted pets, students will write in journals about their pets and feed their pet (by buying food with their earned money).
