Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a wonderful school. My Kindergarten students love to draw and color their pictures in their writing.
My school has moved to arts integration this year and I do not have the variety of materials they will need.
The problem is they don't have access to various materials unless we give them to them. Our parents do their best to make sure their children have a roof over their heads and food in their bellies so art tools and other needs are not or cannot be met.
We have close to 500 total students, many of whom are English Language Learners and still a small school because we are tucked into a neighborhood so no one knows we are there. We are a Title I school with more than 80% of our students receiving free or reduced price lunch. Many of our teachers must pay for materials we need or seek donations.
My Project
My students need materials to help them with our arts integration initiative. They love the arts: music, dance, visual arts, and drama. For visual arts and drama, we are lacking a few needed items. One is drawing chalk. With the large paper we have and the color sticks and chalk, they can create their backdrops for their plays and this is important to them. The color sticks and chalk will also be used when they work on independent projects.
The students will print their creations on the 3D printer with the filament and see and hold what they have designed on the computer screen.
The glue and sealer will be used on different paper creations to secure what they have made.
