Designing a Mars Habitat and Beyond!

My students need a desktop 3D printer to create engineering prototypes.

My Students

The students at my school are constantly engaged in hands-on, problem-based learning. Our K-8 students travel out into their community and learn by experiencing museum exhibits and by interacting with the Georgia standards instead of sitting passively in a classroom. I feel passionate about giving students a comprehensive STEM education from the beginning of their schooling. My goal is to start our students early in STEM careers and technology so that they can practice logical and critical thinking skills that will make them well-rounded students and individuals.

My Project

Mars is the next great frontier. My students will be engaging in a project where they are researching Mars and its atmosphere and landscape. From their research, they are going to be working in collaborative groups to create a Mars habitat that will be able to support 10 people.

The project requires them to create a prototype of their habitat and having a desktop 3D printer will help to create quick and easy prototypes.

The students in the STEM class are working on working through the Design Thinking Process (Empathy-Define-Ideate-Prototype-Test) and I want them to be as successful as possible.
