This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an occupational therapist who has the pleasure of working with a diverse group of elementary and preschool students. The majority of my students have sensory processing differences which greatly impact their school experience.

In the school setting, my students with unique sensory systems can have difficulty coping with the sights and sounds around them; accessing instruction, moving their bodies how they want to; finding comfortable foods to eat; and advocating for their needs.

Sometimes these challenges are complex, and I reach the limits of my professional knowledge in trying to help the student do what they need to do and want to do at school. I need to continually seek out learning on a variety of sensory processing-related topics including motor learning, trauma-informed practices, mindfulness and more. I would be grateful for your help in purchasing a subscription to the STAR Institute's Online Learning center which will give me access to a wealth of information to support my students.
