Decompressing in a Calming Corner

Help me give my students a bean bag chair, weighted lap blanket, sensory tent, feelings chart and more for a Calming Corner. I teach special ed students at an elementary school. A Calming Corner is a place for a child to decompress when needed or a place to relax when appropriate.

My Project

Calming corners are vital in classrooms because they provide students with a designated space to manage intense emotions, practice self-regulation, and de-escalate when feeling overwhelmed or upset.

They offer a safe and calming environment where students can learn and practice coping skills, ultimately improving their ability to focus, learn, and reduce disruptive behaviors.

Calming corners create a sense of security and belonging in the classroom, allowing students to feel comfortable seeking help and support when needed. By providing a safe space for emotional processing, calming corners can reduce the likelihood of disruptive behaviors and promote a more positive classroom environment.
