it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach bright, curious kindergarten through second grade students who are learning to read and exploring the world through books. Many of them come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and are eager to learn about animals, science, history, and the world beyond their neighborhoods. However, they often lack access to high-quality nonfiction texts at home.
I am requesting sets of nonfiction decodable books that students can take home, read with their families, and build both literacy skills and background knowledge.
These books will be aligned with their current phonics instruction, ensuring that they are accessible to emerging readers while introducing real-world concepts in science, social studies, and the natural world.
Research shows that students need both decoding skills and strong background knowledge to become confident, fluent readers. By providing nonfiction decodables to take home, we’re not only giving them the tools to practice reading but also fostering curiosity, building knowledge, and supporting equity in learning opportunities. With your support, my students will gain access to high quality nonfiction decodable books that make learning to read exciting and purposeful. Thank you for helping us turn pages into possibilities.
