Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My kindergarten students are eager to learn and are especially motivated to become independent readers. My school is a Pre K-5 public school in a diverse community.
My students love working on developing their phonological and phonemic awareness skills.
Each day, I provide them with a whole class lesson that has engaging language play activities. The lessons embed instructional support & modeling, a alphabet knowledge activities, and opportunities to make phoneme-grapheme connections, matching the sounds we hear to letters in print.
The next step is to practice reading! Unfortunately, my students do not have decodable readers that align with the lessons to put their skills into practice. That’s where this project comes in. The readers in each Heggerty kit come in sets of 6 books and will be perfect for small group reading lessons.
