This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is compromised of a diverse, vibrant and curious group of kindergarteners who are excited to return to in person learning. Many of my students are second language learners who come from low income backgrounds. My students inspire me to provide them with engaging learning opportunities to help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

My goal is to cultivate a love of learning to help them achieve their dreams.

My Project

Phonics is a large component of the kindergarten curriculum. Our kindergarten students are actively engaged in identifying letters and their specific sounds. We are making connections between these letter sounds and words by using strategies to focus on decoding CVC words. Our school has decodable readers that follow along with our curriculum to use while at school, yet I would love to have 20 sets of Bob Books: Set 1 decodable readers that can be sent home with each child for extra practice.

Allowing our students to take home decodable readers on a daily basis will reinforce strategies that are being taught in school.

Students will have the opportunity to work on decoding CVC words while they are reading short stories. Consistency between school and home is crucial in reading development. Your help with this project is truly appreciated.
