My Project
My students need phonics books and games that are aligned to their reading and writing instruction, and reflect their cultural identity. These materials will give them the practice and application they need to achieve grade level benchmarks. From my perspective, ELs bring such a unique energy and richness to the classroom. Racial representation is fundamental to creating a more inclusive, empathetic, and truly representative literary landscape that serves all readers and helps them better understand themselves and the world around them.
We live in an increasingly globalized and multicultural society.
Books that reflect this reality prepare readers to navigate and thrive in diverse communities. They foster a greater appreciation for different cultures and help us understand our shared humanity, as well as our unique differences.
