My Project
My students come from a small, rural community. Our school is a K-2 building where 60% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Despite any challenges my studets face, each and every one of them strive to be the best they can be each day. Our district's resources are limited to textbook purchases; therefore not much is left to be spent on extra support in the classroom.
My students get excited about reading when they come to my room.
They are reading below grade level and I do not have many books for them to choose from that are on their level or that will keep them engaged due to a lack of interesting topics. A variety of high-interest texts for them to choose from will motivate my students to read and also help them become more successful at reading. With these new decodable books, my students will be able to select books that will allow them to read independently about topics they are interested in. These decodable books will allow for increased confidence and more success for my students!
Unfortunately, I am discovering many gaps in my students’ reading skills due to Covid-19 and online learning. I am so excited to be able to provide my students these decodable books and watch the gaps disappear!
