Decodable Books to Read, Read, Read!

My Students

I have a great group of 1st grade students that are eager to learn and hard workers. They are kind to each other and help each other willingly. They come to school everyday ready to learn! They are inquisitive and always asking questions.

My students make coming to school each day enjoyable.

Their excitement for learning and curiosity are contagious. It is fun to be around their energy, I only wish they could share some of it with me!

My Project

In my classroom we use decodable books and text to work on multiple skills in the language arts core. I want to expose my students to a variety of texts and tasks using various levels of rigor. By providing students with books and passages that they can read and mark in class and then taken home and read again and again, they will build reading confidence, fluency, accuracy, comprehension and will become better readers.

Because of Covid, many students did not attend Kindergarten and need more practice with reading skills.

I want to give my student lots of opportunities to read and build their reading skills and fluency. Reading is such a critical skill in the early years and I want to help all my students be successful.

“Marking the Text” is an active reading strategy that asks students to think critically about their reading. It helps students determine the essential information in a reading passage, isolating it visually from the rest of the surrounding text. As students are engaged with the text and able to go back to it to find evidence, their comprehension will improve. Students would also be able to think about and find evidence of story elements and other text features with the materials requested.
