My students need picture communication resources to be used in speech-language therapy sessions, in deaf education classrooms, as well as in students' homes and communities.
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist who works with deaf and hard of hearing students in a dual-language school. Students have access to education in both American Sign Language and written/spoken English modalities. In addition to written and visual language skills, and speech skills, I work with students to promote their life skills and social emotional needs.
I need communication system resources to make materials for students who benefit from visual supports for language development and to make materials for Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems.
My Project
Currently, Boardmaker CD programs are in limited supply and high demand at my school, making it difficult to access and use. It would be amazing to make the materials I need in a timely manner for my students and families. Most of the families I work with are learning American Sign Language at the same time as their child. These CD programs would provide greater access to students and families learning the language and communication styles of AAC in and outside of the school setting. The students I have who use AAC have very individual preferences on how their pages are designed.
