Deaf Students Hunting Monkeys via Projectile Motion!
My students need a monkey and the hunter demonstration kit to help them learn gravity's effect on projectile motion.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Oyler's classroom raised $261

My Students
How can physics be taught without motion and velocity experiments to demonstrate projectile motion and gravity's effects on projectiles?
My students need to DO science, not just read about it, watch or watch me sign the intricacies of Newton's work.
I am lucky enough to teach approximately 1/3 of the Deaf students in Utah.
They are playful, brilliant and curious about science.
They work hard to obtain English as their second language, but also flourish in their American Sign Language proficiency. Many of them are motivated and are interested in learning because they want bright futures, be it in teaching, law, cooking or acting. Experiments and activities like these will help them develop critical thinking skills and will help them engage in interesting conversations and analyze what is happening, and why.
My school is amazing at supporting the needs of the students and we work hard to teach the students practical thinking skills that will benefit them for their future.
My Project
The beauty of physics is that it can be done in the classroom, but depict some amazing concepts! There are countless experiments that students can do that seem simple in concept, but to see and experience them, teach some incredibly universal concepts. By being exposed to this real-life science, students can see true science and analyze the world around them better, rather than seeing it only in a textbook.
Not only does lab work allow for physics learning, it triggers critical thinking and awe because students begin to have a visceral curiosity about the world which surrounds them. Immediately, motions via vehicles they're interested in are identifiable, and recently unidentified phenomenon (field of reference or unbalanced forces) become an identifiable concept that they can understand, using math and physics!
This project would make a huge difference because it allows the students to get "into" and experience science, which is the best way to learn.
Not only will they be learning about motion and Newtonian physics, they'll learn how to analyze things, gain knowledge about their world, and learn how to document their observations.
Skills like those taught with these materials are crucial to students' development and will help them excel at the career they choose.
