Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a small therapeutic self-contained program that have many social and emotional needs ranging from self-regulation to effective social skills. Many of these students have experienced abuse and/or neglect, various traumatic situations, mental illness within the family, being raised in the absences of either one or both of their parents, and their own behavioral struggles that have impacted their ability to function without the use of increased supports. Because of how small our program is, we don't have much access to resources. Therefore, our goal is to bring the resources to our students.

My Project

Our program is being piloted to teach Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in school to our students who are in need of emotional regulation skills. This project will help students be more engaged in the group sessions. The purpose of providing snacks is to create an opportunity for the facilitators and students to connect. Facilitators will model social skills and deepen the positive relationships that have been fostered throughout the school year.

The various tools such as the weighted vest and fuzzy slippers will help aid in an experiential experience with hopes to bring more awareness to the DBT skills being taught.

The M & M and Raisins are going to be for the mindful eating exercise to teach students to pay attention utilizing their five senses. The washers are for the string and washers exercise with the objective of increasing focus and awareness for our students. Thank you so much for your support and consideration to our project!
