Data in a Flash!

My students need more flash drives, plus paper for the classroom as well.

My Students

Two years ago I asked for flash drives in the hopes of giving them all away, and that has happened, just as planned. My students are getting better at technology, and these flash drives will propel them into high school. My goal has always been to move my students forward, and this helps!

I teach English and science to middle school students.

My students are amazing and always have been. They are silly and smart, the best combination you could hope for. Our school is on the edge of a major city and is filled with many cultures. It has also just celebrated its centennial. These kids come from all walks of life and often teach me more about the world than I learned in my own education.

My Project

Two years ago I asked for 20 flash drives. All of them were to be borrowed throughout the year, and ten would be given away at the end of the year. The last ten were borrowed and then given away at the end of this year. I would like to do the same for the next two years. My students don't always have Internet or computer access at home, so they use these flash drives at the library or at friends' houses to complete their projects. Although I teach English and science, many of my projects are electronic, and I love to teach them tricks they can use in their future. The paper will be used to help my students make their English and science notebooks interactive. Color paper will allow them to find their notes easily. Each color will denote a different type of skill or content area needed for that specific class. This will help my students with their organization and note taking skills, not only in my class, but in their other classes as well.

Making my students computer literate is a major goal of mine.

It is not in the curriculum, but it is something that they will need for the rest of their lives. The computer skills that will be used will follow them through high school, college and into their careers. Taking notes and being organized is an important part of their future as well. These are lifelong lessons that I happily teach because I want my students to be successful. And they are!
