Help me give my students the opportunity to learn how to collect real world data. Timing cars to calculate speed to determine if cars are speeding in front of the school is just one example.

My Project
Being able to collect data in the real world is a skill that students need to develop. Having clipboards and stopwatches allow them to go outside and record that data in an easier fashion and lets them tie their learning to real world problems.
One example is using an accident that occurred in front of our school years ago, with a student getting hit by a car.
We have our students go out and measure the speed of cars as they drive by using stopwatches to determine if speeding is still a problem, or if the extra signage fixed the issue. They learn data collection, mathematical conversions and real-world application all in one go.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
