My Project

Dash, Pinch, & Sprinkle: Cooking Up Literacy is a project designed to empower students by blending the art of cooking with essential academic skills. At the heart of this initiative is a request for cookbooks—memoirs that teach recipes and inspire through stories and life lessons. As they delve into cultural or themed cookbooks, students gain insights into global traditions, history, and storytelling through food. This exploration fosters a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives and encourages them to read beyond recipes, diving into background stories or culinary tips from authors.

These books will serve as a gateway for students to enhance their reading comprehension, math proficiency, and critical thinking skills.

By engaging with the narrative and instructional content, students will learn to follow detailed recipes, measure ingredients, and analyze cooking techniques—practical applications that reinforce their academic growth in an enjoyable and relatable way.

These books will help them see the connections between reading, math, and real-life applications. The hands-on nature of using cookbooks allows students to see the tangible results of their reading, which can boost confidence and reinforce the value of literacy in everyday life.
