Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, I see the challenges my students face both in and out of the classroom every day.
For the past several years, my students have not had any performing arts education- no dance, no instrumental music, no choir, no theater.
For students that will not experience these classes outside of school, this is unacceptable. I have been working with all of my students to grow them as both artists and citizens. They will be given the opportunity to create, perform, respond, and connect dance to their everyday lives in order for personal growth.
Dance education in our school is vital - it gives my students a space to create, express, and explore their personal interests. With your help, my students will be able to experience and thrive through a quality arts education.
My Project
Currently, students are preparing for their spring dance endeavors. These skirts, leotards, and shoes will be used during after-school rehearsals, multiple school showcases, and community performances. Additionally, these resources will act as costumes for our city-wide dance festival as well as our Team Match this June. At this Team Match, students from our school will compete against other students from NJ school competing in the same program. Having these resources will allow students to dance with poise and grace, just like any dancer should. During performances, students will look show ready for their teachers, classmates, parents, and community stakeholders.
Giving low-income students access to basic dance resources is an investment in their future.
These basic dance essentials will allow students to rehearse and perform with intent, which will prepare them for their future endeavors.
