Help me give my students the best physical and audio experience during remote learning by providing wireless bluetooth headphones for students who cannot purchase their own.
I teach K-8 dance in various styles. My classes are made up of a very diverse population. We are a fine arts magnet school which means we receive students from all over the city through a lottery process. This means my class is made up of a variety of different ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds and also includes diverse learners.
The students do not have to test in or audition so there are varying dance abilities in each class.
Students learn ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, tap, swing, Bollywood and how to choreograph their own dances.
Each year we have two performances where classes present some of what they learn in a dance usually part of a collaborative theme.
My Project
After completing two weeks of remote learning, I realize that my students have a large variety of remote learning environments. Some students are in a smaller living space with multiple people working and schooling from the same room. Some students are in a daycare pod where they have an area to work. Some students just need headphones to drown out distracting noises from their environment.
Many students need to use headphones to hear instruction and stay focused, but dancing with a cord plugged into a computer makes it difficult and dangerous.
Students risk damaging their equipment if they go to turn or jump. Plus it's just not as enjoyable to learn dance in a restricted environment. This is where wireless headphones are key. It allows the student to move freely without restrictions of a cord. It also allows them to hear the music and instruction much better, especially if they are in a noisy environment. Tech equipment and school supplies are already adding up to be a difficult expense for many families, especially during uncertain times. The majority of my students are ready to dance and want to move with me! I want to give everyone the best possible opportunity. The wireless headphones are not limited to dance. They can be great for PE, drama, and music instruction since they have a microphone for a response. I may not be able to control their learning environment, but I can try to make it the best experience possible.
