My students need Chinese Jump Ropes and Tinkling Jump Bands to work on cardiovascular endurance while bringing the outside world into the physical education class.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Davis's classroom raised $349
This project is fully funded
My Students
"Pack your bags! We are going on a trip! We will stop at many places, including: South America, Africa, Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, China, Philippians, and other surprise locations!" Students will study dance and jump rope from the outside world- bringing the outside world into Physical Education.
I teach at a title one school where around 60% of my students are on a free or reduced lunch.
Studies show that students who live in low socioeconomic status are at risk for low test scores, obesity, high stress levels (cortisol), and low self-esteem. Studies show that students who increase their moderate to vigorous physical activity levels preform better in school with: lower levels of cortisol, higher levels of BDNF (miracle grow for the brain), better social skills, improved self-esteem, and lower BMIs. My students love to learn new and interesting skills! Bringing the outside world into physical education will peak my students interest level and desire to learn new jump rope and dance routines.
My Project
Students will be able to learn about and appreciate cultures around the world through dance and jump rope. Students will learn how to Chinese Jump Rope, a popular jumping activity practiced around the world, that originated in China. Students will learn how to do tinkling, which is the national dance from the Philippians. Students will use jump bands to simulate bamboo poles. Students will also study Zumba Kids and Zumba Jr. that will teach many dances from around the world. Students will study the importance of monitoring their heart rate and how to get their heart rate in the moderate to vigorous zone by jump roping and dancing.
Students need to make connections outside of our day to day lives.
It is hard for students to see globally, many students only understand the community they live in. Technology and the books only go so far to teach students history and culture of many countries. Students can appreciate a culture differently by learning some of what other kids do in different cultures to be active and socialize. Students will be able to connect with the outside world from which they live.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
