This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love music! Although only given Music classes offered through the district every other year for 1/2 an hour per week, I am keeping Music education alive in my own classroom by singing and dancing with my students everyday!

I teach a group of 22 loving, intelligent, excited to learn, and caring Kindergarten students in a high-need area of New Mexico.

2 of my students are learning English as a second language. Our school is Title One and is 100% free lunch and breakfast. Our district is experiencing a 23,000,000 dollar budget shortfall and getting new supplies and technology we want or need is out of the question.

My Project

Having an Ipod will allow me to organize my music into genres allowing me to create playlists for easy access to music throughout the day. I am so lucky to have over 100 CDs for classroom use (thank you Donorschoose and citizen philanthropists), but rifling through them to find the right song often has my students sitting and waiting. The Ipod will make it easy for me to play soft soothing music from multiple classical or instrumental CDs, or play all of our favorite action songs in a row without changing CDs. I will be more organized which will allow us to do even more song and dance in our classroom.

Music is a staple item in my classroom daily.

Students increase their oral language and vocabulary skills by singing along with easy to memorize songs, rhymes, and chants. Having an Ipod will save my Cd's from inevitable scratches from changing them so much, and will make my Cds free so families can check them out to borrow them. Having an Ipod will make my music easily accessible and organized. Thank you for caring about my students and helping our dreams come true! You are inspiring!
