Help me give my students the tools necessary to help them improve their strength and conditioning as dance artists. This equipment will allow students to participate in cross-training techniques that will keep them strong and injury-free.
Dancers are known for their artistry as well as their athleticism. Many young dancers are unaware of how to strengthen and cross-train to prevent injury and find their careers interrupted by recovery.
In an effort to teach young dancers the importance of injury prevention and muscular strength and endurance, I have created a dancer-specific strength, conditioning, and mobility program that benefits young dancers' overall personal fitness.
In this unit, dancers will learn how to properly use equipment like resistance bands, slider discs, plyo boxes, and balance pads to increase their range of motion, mobility, strength, and overall body conditioning to improve their dance artistry. These items, coupled with the items our physical education teacher already has (stability balls, bosu balls, jump ropes, and yoga mats), will provide a comprehensive set of equipment for this unit. Dancers will be able to employ techniques they've learned in this unit to their overall wellness.
