My Students
My students attend a tough, inner city school where 98% of the population receives free lunch and 75% of their families receive AFDC assistance.
The wealth of my school lies in our school community.
We have fostered an environment where we play and sing and dance together as we learn. The students and staff of my school invest ourselves in creativity and this type of learning has fostered significant trust. My students are ready to use our Dance Team and Drum Ensemble to facilitate experiences for our neighborhood community.
My Project
My students need a healthy team sport that has a place for everyone. Whether the student (or adult) has limited ability, there is always a place for their participation with our school dance team and drum ensemble. The materials requested will allow my students to take their team that promotes good health, exercise, a sense of belonging and lots of fun out into our neighborhood!
Multicultural dancing and drumming will create a sense of community that will be shared throughout our school community as well as our neighborhood community.
'Multicultural Dances From Around the World' and 'West African Drum and Dance' will provide the students with multicultural materials to facilitate dance and drum classes during our family nights and other community gatherings after gathering information and inspiration from the 'I Can Fly 1' DVD. The Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker III and cover will provide a good quality, portable sound system so the students can practice and perform in areas where there is no electricity.
